July Simple Scrapper Layouts: Sunshine

Rather appropriately for the month of July, the theme at Simple Scrapper is Sunshine. This can be interpreted in lots of different ways.

This first layout i did using the story starters is about how my energy returns in the summer. Suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder, i literally feel like i'm solar powered. i've used yellow to represent the summer months but also included the grey colour to reflect how i feel during the winter.

My next layout is about a friend who has a sunshiny personality. i got a bit carried away when designing this layout and forgot to leave space for journaling so it ended up going on a tag and being tucked behind the photo. i used some of my Ali Edwards Story Stamps on this one. And there's those enamel hearts again :)

June Simple Scrapper Layouts

2 8 x 11 1/2" layouts from me this month and they are both very different, but also use the same technique. The prompts this month are based on Teams so what could be more appropriate then a layout about being a part of the Simple Scrapper Creative Team?!

i used a bunch of stamps from the Craft Story Stamp set from Ali Edwards with different coloured inks to make a little word cluster. Here's a close up.

This next layout uses a sketch from the June collection. i used the Little Moments Collection from Elles Studio which is so very cute. Then i used different word stamps from about 5 or 6 different sets and picked out ink colours which matched the collection. i have lot's of photos from this particular night out in New Orleans and i think the story will be told on another layout so i just wanted the stamps to tell the story here.

May Simple Scrapper Layouts

The content for May, as always, is really great at Simple Scrapper. i was elated when i saw that the sketches this month all have lots of room for journaling, as you have probably noticed  i really love to write on my pages. But ironically i ended up skipping lengthly journalling on my layout! Just goes to show the sketches are open to interpretation if journaling isn't your thing.

The stamping on this page was a happy accident. i was using a heart die cut as a template for stamping through and accidentally stamped outside the template. oops! i decided to roll with it and stamp a few random letters elsewhere to create a messy effect and i really like how it turned out.

The theme for the story starters is hobbies/free time. Rather than collate a bunch of photos i decided to just list a bunch of things that i like to do right now. i always find these types of pages interesting as things can change as time passes.

Whilst i'm here, i also wanted to draw your attention to the upcoming Photo Crush event which is happening May 11-17. During this 7-day challenge, Jennifer Wilson will help you streamline your digital photo library so that memory keeping is even easier. Click here to sign up for FREE!

April at Simple Scrapper

March was kind of busy for me, i started a new job and had to take a business trip abroad. So i didn't get to dig deep into the Story Starters like i usually do. In fact, i didn't get much scrapbooking done at all! The theme at Simple Scrapper this month is beliefs. Jennifer did a really good job to offer some well rounded prompts in order to cater for everyone, they are not all centered around religion and cover some much broader topics. You can play along with this month's story starter challenge here. Create a layout on this month's theme and submit it for a chance to win a 3-month Simple Scrapper membership pass. Be sure to check out what is going on at Simple Scrapper this month. Now onto my layouts...

i decided to keep my journalling hidden on this layout. It talks about some of my core beliefs, which covers serious stuff like my political beliefs and how i think we should all be looking after the planet, and some of my more spiritual beliefs. i would love to have some gold doilies in my stash, but they are so pricey! So i inked a white doily with a gold ink pad. It took a while to dry, but i think it turned out ok.

You will see a couple of common features on my SS layouts this month, stamping and gold! i am currently obsessed with both. Particularly word stamps, can't get enough of them. To get the alignment right on this layout i used a ruler and pencil to mark out where to stamp.

This last one came together really quickly, that's why i love sketches so much!

Wonder Fish

This week's challenge over at the Studio Calico Blog is to use a background stamp. i must admit, mine have been somewhat neglected, so what better excuse to get some use out of them?

Paper, Stamp, Mist: Studio Calico, Border Sticker: Basic Grey, Alphabet Stickers: American Crafts, Sassafras, Bloom: Sassafras, Ink: Tim Holtz for Ranger, Label Stickers: Li'l Davis Designs Other: Twine, Tiny Attacher.

Back in September i had a lovely trip up to London with my sister. You can read more about it here. One of the things we did was have our feel eaten by fish. Ha! Just kidding, it's a spa treatment in which Gara Rufa Fish nibble on your feet to exfoliate them. it's crazy but cool.
